AM/FM DIGITAL ATOMIC CLOCK RADIOAmazon.com Product Description
This modern clock radio is a step above the clock radios of the past. For starters, the radio updates its time automatically from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. While this may force you to work or school on time, the benefits of a constantly updated timepiece are critical in this fast-paced world. The radio even adjusts itself automatically for daylight saving time. The illuminated… More >>

If this clock is really that big it wouldn’t fit on my dining room table, let alone a beside stand.
I bought this clock based on the picture image and my belief that it cannot be those dimensions. If it is, I will send it back. Anything like this is meant to be a bedside radio clock must fit in a small space.
I hope it does, it is ordered and sent and will arrive at my home next Wednesday.
I’ll let you know when I get it.

For those who love advanced technology, this is a GREAT unit, and it looks much better than I expected: The pictures does not do the product justice.
I read some of the reviews before ordering the radio, and it seems to me that some people would complain even if they were being hung with a NEW rope. Seriously, if one is obliged to fault the product, they could say the wording inside the Owner’s Manual is a bit pompus. I got the feeling that Art Bell, of Coast to Coast fame, wrote the copy (remember him?). . .

I bought this clock from Amazon, and it arrived very quickly, thank you. I was quite excited as it seemed to have all the features I was looking for in an alarm clock.
I really like atomic clocks that will recover the time even if the power goes out. I have a Sony dream machine, it uses a 9 volt battery for power outages, but then if the battery is dead your out of luck. The dual time setting was also of interest, so I can have one setting for the week, and another for the weekend. The main reason I was shopping for a new alarm clock was that my Sony, when set to radio wake up, would also sound the buzzer along with the radio, rather jarring first thing in the AM. Well let me cut to the chase. The Sangean instructions seemed doable from the start, and they tell you it can take up to 48 HRs. to get the radio signal, thats 2 days folks before you know if the clock works. Well I did a manual time setting after waiting only a day, and the atomic clock did kick in. I wrote an email to Sagean tech. support in hopes they’d have some advice, but heard nothing. Then the real nightmare, setting the alarm. I followed the manual to the best of my ability, and was able to finish some of the steps. I was able to select the radio station I wanted to wake up to,and after some repeat effort set the wake-up time, but could not get it to set the alarm setting. had one missed wake up as I’d accidentally turned my Sony alarm off. Day three I got it to register the alarm setting, showing the radio icon, correct time etc. all was set. Come 7am and I get beep beep, no radio. Called the company, but it was after 5pm so no answer. Fri. I got home before 5 and called again, got a salesman, Tech. had left for the day. He was very helpful, pulled a radio from the show room, attemped to go step by step with me through the manuel to set the alarm to clock setting, and he too failed. Now he was determined to figure it out, and promised to call me back with more help, all this on my long distance phone bill I might add, at least an hour with all the holds, and getting cut off once, but he was very nice and as helpful as he could be. He did call me back, and he had gotten his clock to work, and I had gotten my alarm 2 to show the radio icon and set to the right alarm time for the weekend, but alarm 1 wasn’t showing the radio icon, so he said he’d have the tech. call me on Mon. Sat. am I was awoken by the beep beep, no radio, same Sun. Today Mon.I heard nothing from them, no phone call , no email, so after 1 week of frustration I’m sending the thing back to Amazon. The style is nice, and there aren’t a lot of choices out there for atomic clock radios, but I’d steer clear of this one.

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual AlarmsThis, my first Sangean purchase, has made me a convert. I really like this product. The clock function is very accurate. Even in Quebec Canada the subtle corrections from the Colorado Atomic clock are made. The alarm function, once you get the hang of it, is quite simple to adjust. It is, however, the radio sound that is the selling point. This radio, relatively small, is able to efficiently identify and discriminate the various radio channels. The sound produced is surprisingly rich, even the base notes resonate. The treble sound is clear; spoken voice is easily understood. This is no Bose;however for the money it is an excellent purchase. If only the instructions were more intuitive.

2008-06-09 WARNING: my RCR-2 LOST all of it’s radio pre-sets during the recent power outage.
the whole idea behind the radio control clock is that the receiver operates normally after a power outage. losing the pre-sets in this manner is a great disapointment.
this means the loss of another star: rate this item 3-stars now, not 4. one is for the lack of a sensor for ambient light for the LCD display, now another for the loss of the radio pre-sets during the power outage.

The atomic clock on my RCR-2 synched almost immediately when I powered up the receiver.
The receiver turned out excellent: it would select and pull in any station I wanted — even getting a nice clear signal on distant/weak ones.
The LCD was “OK”, but too bright to leave on all the time. Easy fix, I just leave it off unless I want to read it.
As far as a lack of battery backup goes, yep, that’s a problem in my area. But if we have a power outage it’s gonna be at least 4 hours in our area. For that reason I have always used a battery powered alarm clock and not relied on an A/C power device as an alarm.
Wish I had read the review on the RCR-22 before I bought the RCR-2 as the display on the RCR-22 sounds to be much better design. Oh well, the RCR-2 will be fine.
